In this section we are in the process of gathering information in order to highlight Saranac Central School, Saranac Fire Department, Hill and Hollow Music, The Saranac Fiddlers, Sable Highlands, and other town organizations.

Sabin Jacques, Accordian & Feet PercussionHill and Hollow Music, founded with a mission to serve the hearty year-round residents of the North Country, has been presenting live performance of mostly classical chamber music in our rugged rural region since 1995. Our central activity is a concert series featuring internationally recognized artists and ensembles.

During the winter and spring of 2008 concerts will be held in two charming historic 19th century churches in the Town of Saranac: the “Church in the Hollow” (Saranac United Methodist) on Route 3 and the “Church on the Hill” (Church of the Assumption) on Church Street in Redford. With high ceilings, wood paneling, and lovely windows, both sanctuaries provide superb acoustics and attractive settings in which to hear fine music. A rebuilt 1925 nine-foot concert-grand piano, a noble instrument from Steinway’s greatest era, is frequently used in concerts.

Hill and Hollow Music embraces our community through outreach. A strong In-School Program presents concerts and workshops to K-12 students who might not otherwise have opportunities to hear live professional classical music. At the other end of the age spectrum, Hill and Hollow artists perform frequently at Lake Forest Senior Living Community. Our artists and ensembles also give master-classes, workshops, and lecture-performances, many free of charge, in various community venues. To date we have presented over 1000 outreach services in our tri-county region.

Hill and Hollow Music sponsors and coordinates Step Lively!, a community dance program in which all ages participate. Our focus is English country dance, with occasional forays into contra, Quebecois, and other international folk dance. Bruce Kokernot, Wendy Gilchrist, and Sonia Long are our regular dance leaders; the Waickman Family are our house-band. For special dance events eminent guest artists and ensembles are engaged.

Hill and Hollow is a member of Chamber Music America and the Country Dance and Song Society, as well as a member-participant in regional Arts Councils and Chambers of Commerce. All Hill and Hollow Music programs are made possible in part by public funds granted through the new York State Council on the Arts and the Clinton County Youth Bureau. Hill and Hollow Music gratefully acknowledges also the financial support of many chamber music enthusiasts, both individual and corporate. Contributions are always welcome and are tax-deductible to the extent allowable by law. Please do not hesitate to contact us by telephone or through our website for further information, including membership.
