Dannemora Free Library’s Board of Trustees extends a HUGE and HEARTFELT THANK YOU to Saranac Central School District voters who, in the May 17 election, strongly supported DFL’s request for increased funding. Please visit the library and explore its many opportunities!
Currently, final preparations are in progress for the Summer Reading Program which will be held from 11:00 a.m. until noon on Mondays July 11, 18, and 25, and August 1, 8, and 15. With the theme “Oceans of Possibilities”, young people attending will hear stories, meet guests, and share in activities involving water pollution, making fishing lures, creating sandcastles, and designing sea creature masks. Call (518-492-7005) or email (dannemorafreelibrary@yahoo.com) if anyone in your family plans to attend the Summer Reading Program, which is made possible thanks to funding by the Stewart’s Holiday Match Program.
In planning summer activities, please know library patrons may borrow a pass from DFL for area attractions. With the pass, Burlington’s ECHO admits up to 4 persons at $7 each; The Wild Center in Tupper Lake admits 2 adults at $10 each, and up to 4 children free; and Fort Ticonderoga’s pass admits up to 4 persons with 10% off general admission.
NYS Department of Environmental Conservation is sponsoring a program this summer which enables library patrons to borrow a fishing pole and have access to fishing maps and a manual of updated fishing regulations. Visit the library for details.
Make room in your summer schedule for The Princess and the Frog, the next film sponsored by the Village of Dannemora with the library’s movie license and scheduled for July 15th at 6:00 p.m. at The People’s Park.
Interested in graphic novels? DFL has as many as 50 new adult and young adult graphic novels. Titles include Marvel’s Thor and X Men, as well as DC titles such as Batman and Green Lantern and others such as The Department of Truth and Ice Cream Man.
If you stop by Dannemora Free Library on Monday, August 22, you may see and hear guests engaged in a meeting. The Clinton-Essex-Franklin Library Board is taking its meetings to area libraries to conduct its summer business. We would love to see a variety of library users and activities in progress as they convene locally.
In a brief look-back, the library’s gardening efforts with Cornell Cooperative Extension in the late-winter and spring were most successful. About 30 individuals were at each meeting, and young gardeners made paper pots, seed strips, and pinecone bird feeders. The seed and plant exchange included tomato, peppers, brussel sprouts, herbs, and flowers.
Summer reads and Book Club meetings are scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month: July 5, The Library Book by Susan Orlean; August 2, The Indigo Girl by Natasha Boyd; September 6, The Music of Bees by Eileen Garvin. New members are always welcome.
As another school year ends and warm, sunny days stretch into extended evenings, be safe, healthy, and positive. Stop in at 40 Emmons Street; visit the library and know your support is indeed appreciated.
