Duties & Responsibilities

The duties of the Codes Enforcement Officer are to provide for the administration and enforcement of New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code which is broken down into the following:

  • Building Code of New York State
  • Residential Code of New York State
  • Plumbing Code of New York State
  • Mechanical Code of New York State
  • Fuel/Gas Code of New York State
  • Fire Code of New York State
  • Property Maintenance Code of New York State

In addition, the Town of Saranac has also adopted local laws which are as follows:

  1. Local Law # 1990, To Regulate Swimming Pools
  2. Local Law # 1-90, To Prohibit the Dumping and/or Storage of Liquid or Solid Waste Materials in the Town of Saranac
  3. Local Law # 4-91, To Regulate Mobile Homes in the Town of Saranac
  4. Local Law # 2-95, Junk and Vehicle Storage Law
  5. Local Law # 4-85, To Provide the Removal or Repair of Buildings Found to be Dangerous and Unsafe or Uninhabitable
  6. Local Law # 4-2007 to regulate adult entertainment

Hello everyone. My name is Ray LeDuc and I've assumed the duties of the Code Enforcement Officer for the Town of Saranac. I appreciate the Town Board for giving me the opportunity to serve the community in this position.

The question always arises, "Do I need a permit for this?" The answer is probably. To determine the correct answer, call my office at 518 293-6666, Ext. 5 or send an email to codeofficer@townofsaranac.com and I will respond to your questions.

I am also holding office hours at the Town Hall each MONDAY from 2:30pm to 5:00pm. Other hours are available by appointment. Call 518-293-6666 X. 5

In addition, a building permit form, building permit requirements and a demolition permit can be found in printable form on the Town's website in the Code Enforcement section.
