Supervisor Report

October, 2014

Your Town Board will be meeting this month to address the tentative budget for 2015. The tentative budget is the first attempt at a plan. We will meet as a board on October 1 and 8, as noted in the Press-Republican. From those meetings, adjustments will be made in order to come up with the second step, the preliminary budget. The final budget hearing will be November 6th. Your Town Board is committed to staying under the cap. This year, that means we will not consider a budget that raises more than $47,776 over last year’s tax levy.

We are awaiting the results of the Comptroller’s audit. We will have 30 days to respond to the report. Both the report and our response will be available on line. Some of the issues your board has been addressing in September include donations to Life light, Local Government Review Board, and Dannemora Free Library; three water districts and their infrastructures; 2009 LWRP grant for Picketts Corners Park; reviewing the need for a Planning Board; and Ganong Drive/McCutcheon Lane and Dashnaw Road washouts. This is an abbreviated list. Please note other concerns and activities in the monthly minutes.

The Town Board unanimously passed a resolution to replace the old, inefficient oil boiler in town hall with a pellet boiler. Many years, miles, and figures went into the consideration. We will have more information about the progress in the next few months.

As we inch our way into autumn, Carol Hipps describes my favorite month like this: Bittersweet October. The mellow, messy, leaf-kicking, perfect pause between the opposing miseries of summer and winter.
